Assassin skill In Aion

There's some that make you confused. Like Imprinting Patterns, inflicts 100 to 106 physical damage with a chance of to step up to 3 imprinting patterns, so this skill ,in my opinion, can put a pattern on the mob before the patterns on the mob reaches 3.some other skills will put the 4th and 5th pattern on the mob. Skill success rate: 40%,I guess this skill is the 3rd step from a combo. usually it have a probability to active the combo skill from step 2 to step 3. Most of it makes sense but what is 3 imprinting patterns? Is this a Macro skill for a follow skill? Does that mean it will do the same thing 3 times? As a side note, out of game time? Imprinting seems to be a kind of second system for abilities. Instead of costing MP, some skills might require say 3 imprints to perform a skill that does more damage than a skill that requires 1.
